Cyrus International has been proud to be involved in the Life and Career of rising teen Car Racing star, Liam Lawson. Cyrus has known Liam since he was born but we became a Sponsor and Supporter of Liam’s fledgling racing career when he was 7 years old when he started in Karts.

Liam won numerous regional and national kart titles through the years before turning to car racing. In 2015 he won the annual Speed-Sport Scholarship program at just 13 years old which allowed him to begin racing ‘open-wheeler’ cars known as ‘Formula First / Vee’ in the Sabre Sport team. He won his first round and also the ‘Winter Series’ and the ‘Rookie of the Year’ title.

He then stepped up to the highly competitive next racing class for 2016 - the faster, more powerful Formula Ford cars, called New Zealand FF1600. With Cyrus International as Chief Sponsor and Race-Car Owner, Liam won 14 races from 15 starts to win the NZ National Title and be crowned the youngest ever national Formula Ford driver in World history

Two months later, April 2017, Liam made his debut in the Australian Formula 4 class at Melbourne’s Sandown Raceway. A stunning start. He became the first International driver not only to win a race in the series, but also a complete round. Through the inevitable ups and downs of Motor Racing, 15 year old Liam ended the season 2nd in the Championship, behind the 19 year old, three season veteran Winner

In November 2018, Liam was then invited for just one race weekend for the final round of the Asian F3 Series at Sepang, Malaysia. He qualified on pole and won all three races in a car, on a track and with a tyre that were all new to him. The manner in which he won ( by more than 10 seconds in each race ) in withering heat made headlines across the motor racing world and heads were now well and truly turned.

Then home for the 2018/19 summer and a drive in the NZ Toyota Racing Series courtesy of main Sponsors Turners Cars, Porter Group and BG Wheels. Up against what is widely recognised as the best quality field ever attracted for the series, Liam once again won races on his debut weekend and went on to secure the Toyota Racing Series Championship and Win the highly coveted NZ Grand Prix. In doing so he became the second youngest Winner in it’s 64 year history, behind current McLaren Formula One driver, 19 year old Lando Norris ).

What will the rest of 2019 bring … as a result of an approach by Formula One team Red Bull Racing the day after the first round of The Toyota Racing Series, Liam has just signed a five-year deal to race in Europe as a fully contracted Red Bull Driver for the 2019 FIA Formula 3 season, racing on the same schedule and as the Support Class to the Formula 1 European rounds. It’s going to be very exciting !

What will the rest of 2019 bring … as a result of an approach by Formula One team Red Bull Racing the day after the first round of The Toyota Racing Series, Liam has just signed a five year deal to race in Europe as a contracted Red Bull Driver for the coming European Formula 3 season. It’s going to be very exciting.
